The survival of the coronavirus on our skin lasts up to nine hours
Unlike coronavirus, the powerful pathogen that causes the flu, survives on human skin for about 1.8 hours, according to a study published this month in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.
Japanese researchers have found that the coronavirus remains active on human skin for up to nine hours, which according to them, shows the great need for frequent hand washing in order to deal with the pandemic, as we have been informed since the very beginning of it.
On the contrary, the pathogen that causes the flu survives on human skin for about 1.8 hours, adds the study published this month in the scientific journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.

“The survival of SARS-CoV-2 on human skin for 9 hours may increase the risk of transmission through contact, unlike IAV (influenza A virus), thus accelerating the pandemic,”
Scientists examined skin samples taken from covid-19 victims during autopsy a day after they died. Fortunately both the coronavirus and the influenza virus are inactivated within 15 seconds when ethanol, which is contained in hand antiseptics, is applied to the skin.
The study supports the World Health Organization’s guidelines for regular and thorough hand washing to reduce the spread of the virus, which has infected nearly 40 million people worldwide since it first appeared in China late last year.
