Microbiology Department

The AEGEAN Microbiology Department performs tests for the diagnosis of bacterial, viral, and parasitic infections. Various biological fluids (urine, semen, prostatic fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, ascites, synovial fluid, pleural fluid), faeces, mucosal swabs (vaginal, cervical, urethral, rectal, pharyngeal, tonsillar, nasal, oral, ocular), sputum, skin lesions (pus, wounds, bedsores, scales) and their appendages (nails, hair), as well as materials/implants (sutures, IUDs, etc.).
Identification of the pathogen and in vitro testing of its susceptibility to antimicrobial agents are performed.
